Content and structure of the minor

The AVP Minor is an educational programme that seeks to provide students with knowledge, skills and competences for exploring opportunities, and for exploiting them by building new ventures either as new independent startup companies or within existing companies. In AVP, you will learn by doing together with people from various backgrounds and nationalities. AVP (http://avp.aalto.fi) includes inspirational courses, a variety of more focused courses to learn specific skills and knowledge in different areas of importance in venturing, as well as integrative, team project courses to support experiential learning. The AVP minor can be pursued with two different emphases, depending on the starting level of the students: students with initial interest and inspiration but limited experience of entrepreneurial practice can complete the minor with an emphasis on inspirational and project-based content, while students who have some experience of entrepreneurial practice and seek to obtain more focused knowledge and skills, can complete the minor with courses focused on specific skills and knowledge in different key areas of venturing.

The pedagogical methods applied in the AVP minor include experiential learning and reflection,as well as lectures, a seminar, and case studies. The core means of delivering the AVP minor is through the high integration of the domestic entrepreneurial ecosystem in individual courses through guest speakers, the development of collaborative projects with Finnish starts ups and companies as well as the use of the facilities and mentors provided by the StartUp Sauna, the Design Factory and the Aalto Entrepreneurial Society.

Students of Industrial Engineering and Management cannot include AVP in their degree as the required technology-related minor, but can include it as a second minor instead of elective studies.

The AVP minor allows students to choose the courses that best meet their educational needs. Students new to entrepreneurship are recommended to first select an introductory course, and then progress to more advanced courses to fulfill the minimum credit unit requirement.

Although most courses in the minor are cross-school courses and as such broadly accessible for students from different schools within Aalto University, please note that individual courses may have group size limits and separate application procedures.
